Richard Sibout a obtenu un PhD en Biologie Forestière à l’Université Laval (Canada) sous la direction scientifique du Dr. Armand Séguin et du Prof. John Mackay en 2005. Après un court séjour à l’Université de McGill à Montréal, il a effectué un postdoctorat à l’Université de Lausanne en Suisse dans l’équipe du Prof. Christian Hardtke. En 2011, il a repris la direction de l’équipe de recherche “Paroi Secondaire” jusqu’alors dirigée par le Dr. Lise Jouanin sur le Centre INRA de Versailles.
Depuis février 2018, Richard Sibout est chargé de recherche dans l’équipe “Paroi Végétale et Polysaccharides Pariétaux” (PVPP) de l’Unité BIA de Nantes.
Biologiste spécialisé dans la génomique de Brachypodium (une plante modèle pour les graminées) et dans la compréhension de la formation de la paroi végétale, en particulier dans les mécanismes de lignification, il s’intéresse actuellement aux paramètres inhérents à la biomasse ligno-cellulosique qui contrôlent la déconstruction de la paroi des cellules végétales.
