The enzymes responsible for the cell wall construction

A proteomic approach to tackle the biogenesis of the cell walls of cereal grains

Plant cells are surrounded by cell walls which are essential to plant growth and protection. In the case of cereal grains, cell walls are important sources of dietary fiber, they have beneficial effects on human health.

The cell wall consists mainly of polysaccharides. Most of these complex sugars are synthesized within the cells; they are then transported to the wall where they are assembled and modified during grain development. To identify the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis, assembly and remodeling of cell wall components, we have implemented proteomic approaches targeting the grain at different organizational levels (from the tissue to the cell wall).
