Webinar Rethinking Dairy Calf rearing

Webinar Rethinking dairy calf rearing: register now!

We are organising a webinar Rethinking dairy calf rearing to re-establish the mother-calf bond: a cross-over study of rearing calves under mother's milk and feeder cows on the mornings of 14 and 17 September. It is aimed at advisors and farmers and will discuss the results obtained in the European projects Grazy DaiSY and ProYoungStock. The webinar will be in French.

Animal welfare is a major issue in organic farming, which aims to provide animals with living conditions that allow them to express their natural behaviour. In particular, two rearing systems that favour a maternal bond between young calves and adult cows are currently being developed on dairy farms in Europe: rearing calves by mothers and rearing them by nurse cows. These systems have been studied in the framework of two European projects funded by the Core Organic programme, GrazyDaiSy and ProYoungStock, in which INRAE teams from Clermont-Ferrand, Nantes and Mirecourt participated. In this end-of-project webinar, we will present the main results of these studies: the characterisation of these different breeding systems, their zootechnical, sanitary and economic consequences as well as the impacts on the farmer's work.

Online webinar, FREE but registration required. Login details will be sent to you by email before the webinar. The webinar will be in French.
Two sessions: 14 and 17 September 2021, from 10:30 to 12:00.
