Projet ANR PRC SEED-REG (2022-2025): Understanding the core mechanisms controlling seed development and maturation

How the LAFL interact with chromatin-based mechanisms to control proper seed development and maturation?

Project Objectives

Understanding the core mechanisms controlling seed development and maturation is an important issue in plant biology. Chromatin modifications together with transcriptional regulations exerted by the LAFL transcription factors, which are widely conserved among angiosperms, are essential for phase transitions (i.e. embryogenesis to maturation and, then, to germination) and for maturation. Despite their pivotal role, we still ignore how these actors interact to control phase transitions and maturation. The project aims to develop original approaches and plant material to identify new regulators and elucidate how the LAFL interact with chromatin-based mechanisms to control proper seed development and maturation. In addition to being a fascinating and convenient model for understanding these important mechanisms, seeds play a key role in higher plant diversity, in agriculture and food production. This project may therefore provide major scientific, societal and environmental benefits.
